Any student, without exception, is welcome to events at Newman House. You don't have to be Catholic to come along!

Spirituality

Image

The heart of Catholic life, the source and summit of all the Church's activities. Mass is celebrated at both the Chaplaincy centres and at Colleges. For the times and location of Mass, follow the Image link in the main menu.

All are welcome to attend Mass. However, it is the discipline of the Catholic Church that only Catholics may receive Holy Communion. If you would like to explore what it means to be a Catholic please speak to one of the Chaplains.

Once a month at Newman House we have 24 hours of Adoration - either an all-night Vigil or a Day of Adoration. Christ is present among us: we bring before him the needs of the Church, the world, our universities and ourselves. See Forthcoming Events for the date of the next event.

OASIS: A Place of Refreshment - Wednesdays at 7.30pm

Come and find refreshment in spirit and in mind. We will have input from a really good range of visiting speakers, exploring the riches of Catholic thought and intellectual life, a time of devotion and prayer, followed by a relaxed chance to meet one another in the Bar afterwards. There will be chips.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament - Tuesdays from 6-9pm

A regular opportunity to spend time together with the presence of the Lord in his most precious gift to his Church. It will include a period when we explore together some rich and varied traditions of prayer. Begins Tuesday 12th October.

Liturgy of the Hours

Monday to Friday in the Newman House Chapel. Morning Prayer at 8.30am; Evening Prayer at 6pm; Night Prayer at 9pm.

Confession - the Sacrament of Reconciliation: Every Wednesday 4.15pm-5.15pm. Or on call - just ask one of the priests

Thinking of becoming a Catholic? Journey in Faith - RCIA

This group meets with Fr Peter every Tuesday at 7.30pm. We explore what it means to be a Catholic and prepare students for Baptism or Reception into Full Communion with the Catholic Church at Easter.

Preparation for Catholics who need to be Confirmed

If you have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation, you can join the Tuesday night RCIA group. We usually have one of the auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of Westminster come to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation after Easter.

Samuel Group - for those thinking of a Vocation to the priesthood or religious life

This group meets on an occasional basis with Fr Peter, for discreet and confidential discussion about the possibility of a vocation. Is God calling you? He may be! Are you answering? See our Blog page with some details of recent students now in formation.

After Sunday morning Mass, the residents of Newman House usually prepare a simple lunch, which costs just nothing - though there is a £3 fee to hire a plate! We usually have a guest speaker to talk after lunch about some interesting subject relating to the Church and the world. 12 noon Sundays.
